Acanthoscurria geniculata, Brasilian Whiteknee Tarantula
Acanthoscurria geniculata, Brasilian Whiteknee:
Since a few years, Acanthoscurria geniculata can finally be purchased (though this species is know since the 19th century). Description: The Acanthoscurria geniculata is a very beautiful spider. The prosoma is framed with a bright tone and the ophistosoma shows even singular reddish hairs. The hairs of this spiders can cause a strong and long-lasting itchiness. Acanthoscurria geniculata has hairy legs which are banded with the colors black and beige. Behaviour: This sort of spider is often very aggressive and quite greedy. Especially young spiders will accept almost any kind of food- whatever is near them. Another important point of their behaviour is the great loss of hair whenever these spiders shoot their ophistosoma- hair on possible enemies. So only after their renewing of skin, you can see them with a complete hair coat. Terrarium The terrarium standards should be 30x30x20cm. This kind of spider often digs horizontal tunnels through the ground, so you will need about 10-15cm of ground material. 2/3 of the ground should be wet in order to guarantee an air humidity of at least 70%. As for decoration and hiding-places we recommend stones, roots and cork. Don t forget to have always enough watergel or freshwater in the terrarium. Breeding: This species grows very fast. In a cocoon there will be about 1000 young spiders. Für artgerechte Haltung dieser Tierart empfehlen wir:
